well, it turn's out I did get my IIci working ok. The fix was a 
combination of a couple things. I stuck on a copy of Mode 32 (which I 
shouldn't have to, it wasn't designed for a IIci. I figure maybe the 
original kernel was compiled on a machine running Mode 32 and that's 
what's screwing it up) Also, I alocated much less RAM to the display 
under the monitors control pannel(i.e. 2-bit color). So, if anyone else 
is having trouble, you might want to give that a whack. I do get a "vm 
fault" every once in a while, which crashes the system, but oh well. I 
have had a little trouble getting apache to compile, so if anyone can 
give me some pointers I'd appreciate it. thanks again
