No the ``active partition'' flag is largely irrelevant.  AFAIK, NetBSD
can only handle the first (by fdisk table slot #) slice with 0xa5,
FreeBSD can handle all of them (the so-called ``slice code''), but can
only boot from the first one due to limitations in the bootstrap.
