I had the boot problem that Peter Grigor had booting. Now I found some
additional info.

Occasionally my Apache server would time out sending responses to a
computer on the same subnet. I played around and found that:
  - I can successfully ping from the requesting computer using the
hostname.
  - I can't ping from the server to anywhere using a hostname.
  - I can ping (and telnet ...) anywhere using IP addresses.
  - netstat and netstat -r hang, but netstat -n and netstat -rn work.
  - netstat -n shows that
    1) there is nothing in any out Q's, but hundreds of packets in the
port 80 in Q's (www-httpd).
    2) there are entries (in and out Q's empty) for ports 1089 and 2430,
neither of which have entries in the services file.
    3) there are two netbios connections on port 139, which _might_ be
working at the time - the problem went away before I could check.
  - the requesting computer could use other URLs with no problem.

I tried pinging (using IP addresses only) all the machines I thought were
our routers, they were alive, and responded with sometimes long times.

I guess I want to know why the in Q's get stuck, and why DNS lookup does
not seem to work. In the time it took to ping a few times and write this
the problem went away. Any ideas? (See FreeBSD Routing Hang on Boot
thread for previous discussion.)

Thanks greatly.
