Is this true?  I thought NetBSD and FreeBSD looked for a partition with the
active flag true and the sys ID set to a5.  If you use the "set active
partition" option to os-bs, you should be able to boot either one, right?

I think I even tried this once and got it to work, but that might be my
imagination.
