In the FreeBSD newsgroup somebody mentioned the same problem, and
another article mentioned as solution : upgrading of the Adaptec
firmware.
So I looked at my aha 1542 CF firmware (version C.0, 1993). 
I never (needed to) changed this configuration setting, and so had 
a look at them too.
* I changed the settings of 'Enable Sync Negotiation' and 
* 'Enable FAST SCSII' of SCSI Device ID #0,#1,#2 *and* #7 from
* "no" to "yes". The panics are gone. 
Copying from CD to sd1 is possible now.....

BTW Are the firmware defaults of Adaptec changed since 1993 ?
