Nope, this is nothing with geometry.  Looks like very low-level SCSI.

Perhaps the data rate for your drive is too high.  I've also heard
that some IBM OEM disks don't like it if their case is grounded; you
have to mount them isolated.

Are you sure the disk is okay at all?
