After changing the sysconfig value, did you reboot the box for it to
take effect?  Also, some folks have recently found out that there are
problems with applications on some OS's which can't handle the
higher-speed connections that FreeBSD uses, and it assumes it's a really
low-speed connection.  Doing things like 'stty 9600' seems to speed
things up.
