Hello,

I installed FreeBSD 2.1 off of a CD-ROM from InfoMagic.
The machine is a 486dx4-100, VESA local bus, 8 megs, 850 meg conner
drive, SMC Ether card, and an ATAPI IDE CD-ROM (Samsung QuadSpeed).
The CD-ROM is jumpered as a slave and it worked great (it was also
only about $110) with the alpha ATAPI driver.

I did a few kernel rebuilds to remove the unnecessary drivers.

I had a few problems trying to figure out the ifconfig alias, but got
it working eventually. In almost no time I had it as the new replacement
  web server.
