On a more serious note, much though I love and use Linux and FreeBSD, I
sent the original poster a note recommending he look at BDM's Cybershield
<URL:http://www.bdm.com/bdm/it_cyber.htm>. It may not be anything like a
hacker/sa's Joy like FreeBSD and Linux, but it seems to me to offer better
system services to help support writing your own interactions with the net
while maintaining strong security guarantees.

But then I saw much, much better advice sail by here, from the person who
advised dropping the OS recommendation out the the doc altogether, and instead
telling 'em to hire a top-notch security mavin and let _him_ specify the OS.
