Some posted this some time back:-

|ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de
|
|Directory:
|
|pub/os/386BSD/386bsd-0.1/unofficial/local/xdm-crypt.engel.Z

This clears the problem, but adds another. This xdm looks for binaries
in /usr/bin/X11, so mkdir /usr/bin/X11 and ln -s everything into
/usr/X386/bin. While you are about it, do likewise for /usr/lib/X11 into
/usr/X386/lib/X11.

However, I cannot get xdm to allow me to login - the ownership of
/dev/vga oscillates between my user-id and root.
