dt is, as you said the desktop program...or Virtual Desktop.. it allows
you to switch screens between different termianls using the command-#
combination...you can open as many terminals..well..i'm guessing
10..(1-0) but i've never opened that many before. Very useful :)
hfs allows you to access the MacOS partition of your HDs...for things
like copying text files from your MacOS side...or copying files, etc.
procps, if i remember correctly, is used in place of the ps command.
I'm not sure if it's still useful since it's release...but it's not
something that you really need...

I'm not sure if these places changes and what they still hold, but you
might want to check them out....
