Sure!  Should work fine, whether your connection to the Internet is a
ppp link running through a tunnel or another ethernet card.

These are all fine options, each with their own strengths and weaknesses
(though people seem to say pretty good things all around about fwtk).
If I might ask, however, what's wrong with using the kernel firewall
filter mechanism (ipfw)?
