On a related note.

Is there anyway to get the local host info checked first before using
DNS the way sun does it.

At the moment I have to disable DNS to access local machines that are
not in the DNS database on our campus server. With the suns the NIS
database is checked first so it finds my local entries.

Are the NIS(yp) specs in the public domain. Has anyone thought about
NIS for 386bsd?
