can anyone give me more information on netboot.com? i'm not even sure
if is supposed to run under dos or freebsd. anyway, i'd like to
netboot a BSD box because (a) i don't really care about its performance
(b) i don't want to spend any more money, even on a cheapo harddisk;
the only reason for its existence is the 16550a on its serial port, i
do everything on the sparc (whch has slow serial ports). i've read the
bit in the handbookk - but it says next to nothing about netboot.com,,
like where i can get it if i am not currently running freebsd to
compile it, and about support for my ethernet card.

i have an NE2000 card in it, irq 5, io 320 (which seems to be the
defaults in the Makefile), but the only binaries i've gotten (via
archie searches off of ftp servers in japan and norway) just crash the
386 (run out of dos... though one did go as far as to say that it
couldn't find the ethernet card). dos version 7 (i.e., win95 - dont'
know if that makes a difference... and NO, windows was not running! -
just a dos 7 floppy).

the server, if of any interest, is a sparc w/4.1.4. i grabbed bootp
daemon v. 2.4.3.

i'm also interested in netboot.rom - is it a good idea to try to get
one of these burned and slap it in my NE2000 card? will it then
netboot like my sun3? anyone tried this?

thanks -
