That was probably me, since you have the same hardware I was running and
recommend. :)

(Actually, I had a 3C589B, but they are discontinued and I believe the only
difference between the B and C is the connector.)

They should. Are you using the GENERIC kernel? Also, did you configure
the card using the DOS software 3COM provided? You need to configure
the card w/out card services for now until we get the more advanced
PCCARD stuff working. Find out what IRQ, port, and memory port it is
using (the latter can not be configured, you you can find it out by
looking at the card information in the DOS utility). Once you know the
port, IRQ, iomem area, boot the FreeBSD kernel with '-c' and configure
the 'zp0' device to the same values and it should work. Also note that
if you are using the BNC connector, you must use add -link0 to the ifconfig
command. Unfortunately, FreeBSD can't auto-detect which connector to use, so
you must choose for it.

It's still work in progress. PHK did some work to integrate the code a
group of developers in Japan (Nomad?) lead by Hosokawa Tatsumi, which
they have updated a couple times since. I'm working on merging it into
the newest code, but my other laptop (not the NEC, I should be getting
that back next week hopefully) is having stability problems. It
probably won't be part of the next release, but I hope to provide
patches to merge it in.
