Hi, I'm looking for anybody who is successfully running
BSDI v201 (or similar) and using a Token-Ring card.

We are running BSDI v201 with an SMC 8115T on a Compaq
PC, using memory address 0x280 and IRQ 15. It seems to
run okay most of the time, however we've experienced the
following:

1) Sometimes we've tried inserting into the ring and got
an error "te0: mac1: removed from ring 0x2". Apparently
this could be because the card is checking for a
duplicate of its MAC address before its adapter is fully
open - so it sees itself (it seems this can happen with
some cards on pentiums where they run too fast)

2) We've also had problems where our card has refused to
co-operate in a Ring Poll when a remote management station
was trying to synch the ring (okay, i'll admit it, i'm
   more of a unix & tcp/ip person than a token-ring freak so
I'm a bit hazy on this bit).

It seems our problem lies with one of:

- the particular token-ring card
- the chipset on the brand of cards we are using
- the microcode on the cards we are using
- the device driver on the BSDI s/ware we are using
- our IRQ/DMA settings
- err, who knows?

Any advice would be appreciated, by email if possible as I'm
in a hurry to fix this and tend to check email more often than
newsgroups. TIA,
