BSD/OS 2.0.1 does not support tapedrives with IDE bus.
BSD/OS 2.1, which currently is not yet available but has been announced,
does support ATAPI and thus should support your drive.

Please don't ask BSDI directly when 2.1 comes out; people are working
very hard to make it happen and additional enqueries slow things down.
