The same thing was happening to me.

Thanks (loads! :-) to Andrew Gordon (Andrew.Gordon@net-tel.co.uk) for
pointing out that compression isn't supported in slirp.  Specifying deny &
disable for the various types in the (local) config file solved my problem.
