  It did for me. I recompiled anyway because my AST card is not
configured by default, and I have no COM1-3.

  Uh, I just have a shell script that does:
while true
do	
	pppd ...
	sleep 10
done

  The sleep is just to keep my modem from being worn out if something
bad happened on the other end. I put "-detach" to keep pppd from
forking.
