There is already a port of INN 1.4 in the ports area. However, both Torsten
(who  made it) and I agree  on the  fact that  it is better  to compile and
install INN by yourself  without  going thru  the  port. Everything is   in
either the Install.ms file or the FAQ (included in the unoff dists).

It enables you to change the paths as you like and makes you understand how
INN work better. 

As for  the  config.data,  you will  find   one in  the unoff2 and   unoff3
distributions from Dave Barr (I can send it by mail for the impatient). The
config.data  uses  /news for    the  spool,  separate overchan  data   into
/news/over.view and uses /usr/local/news for binaries and data files. 

I recommend  the unoff2/3 dists  as they fix  many problems and offer extra
features such as streaming mode for nntpsend.
