: It comes in the ports distribution with 2.0.5 (there's also a package, but
: it's better to compile it yourself - in fact I believe the package has been
: dropped from 2.1.0 as it was too difficult to make one that was general
: enough).

: The main 'gotcha' with INN on FreeBSD is that using MMAP is known to cause
: occasional system crashes due to a bug in the MMAP implementation! However,
: the performance without MMAP is almost as good as with it, due to the very
: sophisticated FreeBSD VM system.

: Apart from that, INN is one of those things for which you really do have to
: read and understand all the documentation - fortunately there's a very good
: FAQ which is posted to the news.software.nntp newsgroup. Although from your
: .sig you probably knew that already 8-)

I had a hard enough time trying to get it to work that I decided to
use the tried and true cnews+nntp, though it took a while to find
a working nntp. This may have been pilot error on my part, but I
found the documentation for inn to be a bit cryptic. Since I'd been
using cnews for years, I went with "the devil I knew". :-)

Chris
