My question is the following:

has someone written down (paper, ascii, http), which initialization-
files are called from what point and at what time?

I am thinking of something like that (for tcsh):

startup: /etc/csh.cshrc if login-shell
                /etc/csh.login if login-shell
                ~/.tcshrc
                ~/.cshrc if no ~/.tcshrc
                ~/.login if login-shell
exit: /etc/csh.logout
                ~/.logout if login-shell

This is naturally just describing a standard, but even that would
be quite useful. This table for all shells, X and Linux would be
nice to have.

Thanks for any answers (email to wellershoff@zib-berlin.de)
and postings,

Svante
