Per other previous discussions on the mailing list -- I think you are
making the same assumption that I had earlier...  That Linus OWNS the
kernel.  Well, he owns part of it -- but maintains control of all of it.

AFAIK, he cannot release the Linux kernel from the GPL handcuffs without
agreement from the other contributors.  That is one of those GPL slippery
slopes....
