I don't know.  I don't have BSDI to compare.  I *do* have AT&T sources
available to me (through several licenses) and what I have seen so far,
except for cpio, which AT&T released into the public domain, neither Net/2
nor 386BSD have AT&T code in them.

Not to be a dork, but AT&T believes it.  I don't know which dbm BSDI is
using, but there is one that has AT&T tables in it, anyway.

This is doubtful, unless there is some provision of German law that would
validate their claim... but of course you said "could sue" rather than
"could sue and win", so you're probably correct.

I'd have to say that in my opinion a large amount of what UNIX Magazin
publishes reflects badly on it.  But maybe that's just me... I have the
same unwarranted problem with the National Enquirer.  8-).
