Without wanting to prolong this thread any more than necessary,
there is no real problem with multiple ethernet cards in Linux.
They are not automatically found any more, because randomly
probing for cards on pre-PnP PC hardware can hang the system,

As you say, each to his own. I originally chose Linux because
it had shared libraries earlier. That's ancient history now,
but I'm not going to switch. Long live open standards.
