2.0.5 binaries will run under 2.1
SOME will need to be recompiled if htey do such things as 
look inside the kernel, (e.g. usually the version of 'ps' you run
should match the kernel)

I have also run 2.1 binaries on a 2.0.5 kernel successfully
(and come to think of it ps worked, so things should be very close..)


in some respect 2.1 was kept deliberatly close to 2.0.5
and is considered a 'stability upgrade' in the same lineage..

2.1.1 will probably also be a linear descendent and probably
also very compatible.

there should also be 'compatibility package' libraries for anything
that changed
