	The act same thing is happening to me on my system! I've tried a
zillion things and it still doesn't work! I'm using a
EIDE2300 Plus VLB I/O Card.
Maxtor 7540AV EIDE 540 mb Drive
Dx2-80 system.

: Well if it is after the Boot:
: prompt, try booting off the floppy and typing:
: wd(0,a)/kernel
: in answer to the Boot: prompt..

Tried this doesn't work
: you don't say WHAT your geometry is, or wht you set up as the
: slice/partition figures......
Geomentry is 1046,16,63

: do "fdisk" and write down EVERYTHING it says
: do "disklabel wd0" and do the same
: post the results here....

I did this for my system and here are the results (Copied by hand so the
wording might be a little off:

FDISK:
** Working on device /dev/rwd0**
Parametres extracted from in-core disklabel are
cylinders=1046 heads=16 sector/track=63 (1008/blks/cyl)

figures below won't work with bios for partitions not in cylinder 1
parameters to be used for Bios Calculations are
Cylinders =1046 heads=16 sector/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl)

Warkning: Bios sector numbering starts with sector 1
Information from dos bootblock is:
that data for partition 0 is
sysid 165 ,(freeBsd/netbsd/386bsd)
start 63 size 1054305 (514 megs),flag 80
beg cyl 0 /sec1/head1
end:cyl 1023/sec 63 head 15

the data for partition 1 is:
<Unused>
the data for partition 2 is:
<unused>
the data for partition 3 is:
<Unused>

Disklabed wd0 gives (approximately):

#/dev/rwd0c:
ytpe:ESDI
disk:wd0s1
label:
flags:
bytes/sector: 512
sectors/track: 63
track/cyl:16
Sectors/cylinder:1008
cylinders:1045
sectors/unit:1054305
rpm:3600
interleave: 1
trackskew:0
cylinderskey:0
headswitch:0	milliseconds
track-to-track seek:0	milliseconds
drwedata(might have said something else?):0

8 partitions
#	size	offset	fstype	[fsize	bsize	bps/cpg]
a:	65536	0	4.2bsd	0	0	0	#cyl(0-65*)
b:	88256	65536	swap				#cyl(65*-152*)
c:	1054305	0	unused	0	0		#cyl(0-1045*)
e:	61440	153792	4.2bsd	0	0	0	#cyl(152*-213*)
f:	839073	215232	4.2bsd	0	0	0	#cyl(213*-1045)

That's what it said after is successfully installed, it failed to boot
and I restarted with the bood disk and then used the fixit floppy
