Addendum:

Always use "hardware flow control".  Unfortunately, each modem handles
this different, so there's no common "AT" recommendation.  On the
computer end of the V.24 line, declare the port as being a "modem" one
in /etc/rc.serial.  (Our getty is still based on V7/old BSD sgtty,
thus it's too stupid to handle RTS/CTS flow control of its own.)
