you need to be able to boot and have the local disk clear for
deleting everything, and have access to the tarfiles..  difficult
to do on a standalone system with only one drive!   I did it by
using a spare 100Mb drive that I plugged into the machine temporarily,
installing to there first and then installing to my main drive when
I was comfortable with the setup.  but if you are on a network then
you should be ok booting (cd or net), mount the drive with the tar
files on over the net, clean the local one and extract the tarfiles..

btw, 1.1 should be out shortly so you might like to wait for that before
investing too much work in 1.0 ?  there will be a 1.1 CD available from
somebody (I forget who) soon after the release, though I don't think we
will be able to boot from it directly.
