And, if you knew FreeBSD you would that the distributed linux emulation layer
does not have support for audio ioctls plus a few more things.

Not to worry , I have added support for sndserver, musserver and joystick4doom
and they all work on my system;furthermore , the changes are being tested
out on the multimedia mailing list.
