  Check /etc/syslog.conf (and the man page).  The default configuration writes 
all sorts of stuff to /dev/console, which you might be better off just logging.

  For info on Qpopper, check the included documentation (manpages, readme 
files, etc), or check Qualcomm's FTP site.  I haven't used it in a long time 
myself.
