Sounds like a config problem, like the old NCSA server running
without the Linux patch to prefork processes or something like
that. As for mail, I've never run more than 50-100k messages a day
through a Linux box (386-40) so I can't say how it would be in
heavy use. How many queues and copies of sendmail were you running
on the server.

Having a doctor with a web page may be a first!
