Of course, I know. We also have some other ,,Seagate'' drives still
running fine (using some System V stuff on it, unfortunately I can't
replace it by FreeBSD :-) )

I thought the described problems (damaged disk data) appeared on one
if our other machines, too, but it seems I was wrong. Perhaps I
transferred some broken tar archives from my machine to it.
But on my machine, the problem still appears.

I go to /usr/tmp, which is mounted on the Imprimis drive, and read
a tape containing everything of the FreeBSD-2.0.5-RELEASE except for
the packages, commerce and experimental stuff.
After that, I try to read some of the distribution archives (bin, for
example) and it's damaged.

I go to /usr2/tmp, which is mounted on a Fujitsu 528 meg disk, the
same procedure - the archive is not damaged.
