We are in the midst of setting up freeBSD to be Thread-safe, and 
to support threads (aiming for 2.2)

in the mean-while, it's available in an add-on
manner. send email to proven@freebsd.org for the exact 
location of his pthreads package...

we hope to have a kernel supported threads implimentation eventually
but it may not happen till after 2.2.
