This is most likely a subsequent error, resulting from the inability
of your server to start up.

Run

	X -probeonly >& /tmp/xlog	([t]csh)
or
	X -probeonly > /tmp/xlog 2>&1	(Bourne-alike shell)

and browse carefully through the file /tmp/xlog.
