i just bought a maxtor 1G hd and ended up having to buy an EIDE
controllor, because the controllor on the MB would not work (i had
the 'no operating system problem'.  After installing the EIDE controllor, 
the system then began to work with no modification.  

i did however ensure that i installed / below 1024.
