Have you applied the patches from the bsdi ftp server?  There was a
bug in the 2.0 distributed ftpd that caused problems when logging is
turned on.  You should find a few ftpd.core files in your user's
directories after they got disconnected.

In general, it is a good idea to apply all the patches BSDI posts to
their ftp patch site.
