I run Apache 0.8.14 on BSD/OS 2.0.1 and it has never caused any kind
of problems.  The server is very heavily loaded, and also calls a lot
of CGI programs to do database lookups.  The backlog is usually in by
DB server, not the HTTPD.

Basically you follow the install instructions and it just works.
