I recently tried to install 2.0.1 from the new boot & root diskettes
along with the cdrom that was shippped to us with the 2.0 version we
purchased. I have no documentation(the little greeen & white manual which
came with 2.0 or any docs for the upgrade) and am fumbling in the dark. I
have started fresh installing from the 2.0.1 diskettes and original
cdrom. I did not install the WWW or DNS server packages.

After the first installation, I followed their little set-up script
inputting standard configuration for an ethernet network.

After completing the set-up I rebooted. The machine hung when it got to
the sendmail daemon for about two minutes then continued to boot. It
returned the error cannot find host(serv.montanamall.com) which is my host
name. I could not
ping any machines including my own. I could not telnet any machines or m,y
localhost. ifconfig showed that the interface was up and running. I
tried another machine on the ethernet port and it worked fine.

I re-installed the BSD totally writing over the old file systems. This
time I broke from the set-up script to a shell. I ran config_netstart and
configured the necessary parameters for the ethernet interface. When I
rebooted the machine booted much quicker and did not hang at the sendmail
daemon. I could then ping myself telnet my IP adress and telnet
localhost. I still could not ping any other machines on the local
network. ifconfig again showed that my interface( ef0) was up & running.
after checking all of the man pages for associated commands I gave up and
totally re-installed again from the 2.0.1 diskettes writng new file
systems over the old. I follwed the set-p script and the machine now
hangs at the sendmail daemon.

I have a 3COM 3509B ethernet card using a 10Base-T connection.

Do I need to upgrade other parts of the BSD operating system? I have
two other upgrade disks: Utilities & Xaccell. I mounted the Utilities
upgrade and read the README file. It did not seem like any of the patches
were related to the network portion.

What am I doing wrong??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I now step down off my soap box! :)
