I've been wondering the same thing. We are currently running Apache under
SunOS on a Sparc 10/51, and it's been flaking out on us in strange ways. None
of us really know Suns well, so we are planning to switch to Linux (on a
Pentium) once the lease expires on the Sparc. The P133 we have runs a lot
closer to a Sparc 10 than I would have thought, and the price/performance is
_much_ higher.

But I keep hearing the same things, probably from the same sources. We run
Linux and Apache on a number of our other (less heavily hit) servers and like
the combination a lot. But are we shooting ourself in the foot to use it on a
heavily used site? Is FreeBSD that much better that it is worth the switch?
Or is the fact that we can't get a Sparc 10 to work right an omen that we
should be picking rock instead of building a website? :)

I'd love to hear peoples thoughts too!
