: Almost *every* PPP implementation used today by ISP's support
: Predictor-1 compression, although it appear Linux doesn't.  Get your ISP
: to update the PPP implementation they use to something more modern,

  Well, when you get your connect through a university...should you really
expect more?  From my experience dealing with schools, I'm lucky I even 
connect above 300 baud.
