I don't know if it will work on the HP drive, but on the Sun DAT a mt /dev/rmt/0 offline will cause the first tape to eject and the second to load.  If you are using ufsdump or tar you may have to do something else.  Also check our www.legato.com they have a lot of technical bulletins on getting the different types of drives/autoloaders to work and their software supports the drive you mentioned on Solaris.  There two other places to check one is the dip switches under the drive and the second is the st.co
nf file will need "magic" data added (Legato has bulletins on both these issues).  You can also try Artecon 1-800-872-2783 and their ArteStack software.  They sell these drives and bundle the software with it.
