Let me go into more detail about my problem..

The motherboard I have here is called a SI54P AIO it is a P90
and has a phoenix bios.

According to the manual it has a
SiS 85C501 for PCI/ISA Cache memory controller
SiS 85C502 for PCI local data buffer
SiS 85C503 for PCI System IO
CMD 10640B for PCI bus IDE controller
SMC 37C665 for Super IO controller
UMC 82C865 for IO TTL integration

In the Bios, I have LBA mode disabled.

I have installed both net and Free BSD and it goes something like this for
net (very simalsimilarer with free)

I put the boot floppies in and it boots up no problem. Finds the hard
drive and reports the geometry just like its supposed to. When I do the
install, this goes on without a hitch. I reboot from the floopy and do a
copy_kernel(In NetBSD). This also works fine.

After the system is installed, I try to reboot off the HD and the after
hearing the drive, I get "read error" on the screen If I boot from the
floppy, and I type wd(0,a)<kernelname> at the boot prompt, it switches to
the HD and boots up no problem. If I take a drive I have running on
another machine (a 486) It acts the exact same way. It has a boot manager
which comes up. If I tell it to boot DOS, it works fine. If I tell it BSD,
it locks up. Very strange, any one got any ideas

Thanks,

Rick
