It works flawlessly for me from the command line, however if I try and
fire up the interpreter from within Emacs, Emacs locks up completely
and won't respond to anything less than a 'kill -9'. Is this a known 
problem?

My only deviation from the instructions was to re-compile it with 'readline'
enabled.
