386bsd seems not to like my rommmate's st506 (ultrastor) controller,
and I don't want to disable the machine for dos and windows use.

Would it be reasonable to install an adaptec 1542b connected to a
quantum Prodrive 105S (removed from a Macintosh) as an alternate boot
drive? Presumably FDISK could be used to mark the partition to
be booted.

I've been offered a 1542b (card only) for $316; is the price reasonable,
and do I need to be wary of revision numbers on the chips?

thanks for reading!
