I think  you are mistaken.  One of the people here runs the public ada
library at wuarchive, and has told me that wuarchive is a DEC alpha.

You are probably thinking of the Walnut Creek cd-rom site,
ftp.cdrom.com, which runs on a FreeBSD Pentium.
