Neither can 192.41.170.15 ping any host on 202.8.65.200/29 except 202.8.65.201 which is a interface of the FreeBSD box. And the FreeBSD box can also ping 192.41.170.15. I've tested with FreeBSD 2.0 and later with 2.0.5 Release but the problem remains the same. The two networks are connected to the FreeBSD box via two ethernet cards and I've run tcpdump on both of them. But the packets do not pass through the FreeBSD box. This was tested with the versions of the kernel with and without the firewall code and with the former I explicitly instructed to pass packts to and from 192.41.170.15 but did not succeed in getting them through. No ICMP error messages like source quench are leaving the FreeBSD box either. The packets are simply dropped. 192.41.170.15 runs the nameserver for the domain but it should not have any effect. The routing table also looks correct. Can somebody kindly tell me how to trace these packets in the FreeBSD box or what I might have done wrong.
