: : : The problem is more on the 9 GB drive itself. I have some bad stories about
: : : the new Micropolis disks. In 6 months, at least 5 Micropolis died at some
: : : friends' sites. Be sure that it will be cooled enough. Heat is a serious
: : : problem with all the 7200 rpm drives.
: :
: : I know Seagate also makes 9GB drives, and I believe my system vendor for my

: : reports for it??

: The original Barracudas were notoriously prolific heat producers. The
: newer low profile models seem to be about average in terms of heat
: generation. We use 12550N's and 32550N's here and haven't had any
: failures (in 2 years), but we do keep them in WELL ventilated external
: enclosures.

Well,hello...saw you at Expo,of course...just what is the difference
between N and W...I got a catalogue today with specs for both and
the Wides cost more but have the same transfer rate and seek time...
and can that BusLogic 445 controller you recommended handle Wide anyway?

The model number on the 9GB Seagates is 410800(N or W).
