I don't know anything about Appletalk, but I've done this sort of
thing before with some networked HP LaserJet 3SIs.

If you can answer yes to this question, I can probably help you:

-> From the FreeBSD host, can you telnet to the printer? <-

If the answer's no, then maybe Cap or Netatalk is more appropriate,
but I really don't know.
