I have figured out the answer to my problem.  I too, have the Logitech 
Mouseman.  Appearently, for the middle button to work, you have to select 
3-button-emulation when you run Xsetup.  I guess it has something to do with 
the fact that the Mouseman is a Microsoft mouse compatible mouse and MS mouse 
on have 2 buttons.  Give it a try, it works for me.
